Overview
Bharatanatyam is a major form of Indian classical dance that originated in the Hindu temples of Tamil Nadu and is codified in Bharata Muni's Natya Shastra. At Nataraj Nritya Kalakendra, training begins with adavus — the foundational movement units that build posture, rhythm, and stamina. Students progress through the complete margam: Alarippu, Jatiswaram, Shabdam, Varnam, Padam, and Tillana. Training integrates nritta (pure rhythmic movement), nritya (expressive storytelling through gesture and facial expression), and natya (dramatic narrative presentation). Regular work on rhythm cycles (talam), abhinaya (expression), and stage preparation ensures students are fully ready for both examinations and live performance. Open to complete beginners with no prior dance background.

Who this course is for
Suitable for complete beginners, students resuming after a break, and those continuing from an earlier level. Both children and adults are welcome. No prior dance experience is required to start.
Examinations
This course prepares students for Bangiya Sangeet Parishad graded examinations in Bharatanatyam. The school guides students through the full examination process from enrollment to performance.
